Default Eureka! AoE has a purpose now!

I've been toying around with random builds in aspenwood (luxon side). One of my my more retarded builds thus far has been a fire ele with dual attunements and all 5 fire damage over time AoE's. I was expecting horrendous failure and everyone to laugh at me.

It kicked all measure of posterior.

It seems the NPCs assigned to guarding doors are a bit slow to move out of AoE if they do so at all. They like to cling to their door a little too much, casting 3 or 4 AoEs will kill them and completely overwhelm any monks. In addition, the AoE panic means they run back and forth in front of the door while being cooked alive.

Since killing the NPC's is all that matters in this mission, you can cut through the kurzicks like a firestorm through butter. Anyway, it made me nostalgic for the days when this kind of thing used to work in all PvE. Anyway, great fun, and a real blast from the past.

Anyone else have any ancient strategies resurfacing in Factions?

I do the same thing in Fort aspenwood. That crazy turtle doesnt like to move from it When I play on the luxon side also the emo guards usually sit there and take a bath in it also. The jade mission is also great for AOE's now, you just have to be a little quicker casting them though. Theres also tons of places to hide from interrupts just in case though.

I disagree, the most useful line is not fire but water. Deep Freeze on people running into and out of the base helps very much. Also, it is good against amber running.

What Mandy Memory said, AoE has always been great. It's DoT AoE that makes people think elementalists are weak. (DoT AoE=Damage over Time Area of Effect, examples being Meteor Shower and Firestorm, where enemies run away from the AoE because it hits multiple times over seconds)

I've got a build that keeps launching 4 fire attacks that is capable of completely killing a monk in battle, because there is no time for the monk to stand up, let alone heal itself, and it also does area damage, so while I kill the healer, I damage the people around it(perhaps necros, rangers, etc) and so if the monk does survive, somehow, then it still has to deal with the next volly, my teammates, and healing its party members.

AoE is the best

I'm a big fan of rodgort's invocation and fireball fun too, but I'm referring to those horrible DoT spells. They actually shine pretty darn well against those NPCs.
